I love this kind of writing, where people write, like they think it. It's so contemporary, it's like you are having a conversation with this author, like they are sitting right in front of you reading the story! I really enjoyed it, I think kids will love this book, and parents like me can read this to my child and have a ball!So many different characters to portray, that's always fun for kids and parents, I think it also touches on great learning topics for kids too, different situations in life, mentioning contemporary characters like Pierce Bronson, and then in the next breath being a black seal - fantastic, very creative writing.
Not too long, not too short, just perfect. I recommend this to anyone who reads to their kids and wants a good story book that can last more than one night!!!

The Adventures Of Larry The Alien edition by John McDonnell Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
The Adventures of Larry the Alien by John McDonnell pokes fun at the serious science fiction aliens and is a hilarious collection of stories about my new favorite alien.
When bar owner Murphy invites a shape-shifting, slightly depressed alien home, the chaos and fun ensues. Larry the Alien can't help being who he is, but don't mention home or his failures will have him sobbing for days. Murphy's wife Dolores is quite the boss, and she puts both her husband and Larry to work with her schemes for wealth. Edna, Murphy's mother-in-law, adds to the comedy like the great-grandmother on Fox's Raising Hope.
McDonnell creates a zany character in Larry the Alien. He's relatable, even if he may be a gorilla one minute or Pierce Brosnan the next - I personally love when he's Pierce Brosnan - or weeping about being a failure to his immensely large family back on his home planet. The reader will embrace the other characters in the hilarity of the scenes. The stories are quick-paced, fun, and will have you laughing. If you're looking for a great, not serious read, consider The Adventures of Larry the Alien.
Larry is an anxiety-ridden, fruity-drink-guzzling, shape-shifting alien who's been sent to earth to monitor our species. After sending the local Mafioso to the crustaceous period as a personal favor to his friend and neighborhood bar owner, Murphy, he goes home to take up residence with same to the objections of Murphy's wife, Dolores, and the delight of his mother-in-law, Edna.
Larry becomes fast friends with Edna, tries to be useful to Dolores and fills in at Murphy's bar becoming a favorite with the customers.
The multi talented John McDonnell has created a perfect existence for the marooned but talented sometimes problematic Larry. He also writes horror, sci-fi and romance. Visit John's flash fiction blog to find out more about his stories, Larry's adventures and John's new adventures.

`Murphy didn't realize the guy at the end of the bar was an alien until he tried to flag him. The guy had been drinking for hours and was pretty scuppered at this point, but when Murphy said, "You've had enough, pal," he suddenly found himself standing knee deep in a Cretaceous swamp, with the largest crocodile he'd ever seen staring at him from 50 feet away. He took a step back, then heard a thunderous roar behind him and turned to see a Tyrannosaurus Rex's head above the treetops, heading this way fast. He probably would have been the T. Rex's breakfast if the alien hadn't zapped him back to the bar just in time.'
Murphy has just met his 1st alien, at least that he knows of. His name is Larry and he was sent to earth to monitor its people. But Larry feels rejected and sorry for himself which always ends up with him having anxiety attacks, crying and him turning into multiple "beings." Murphy, being the good bartender he is, listens to Larry's problems and decides to invite him to stay with him, his wife Dolores and her mother Edna. So, to help him out even more, Larry's new found friends try cheering him up by taking him to a seafood restaurant, which was a mistake because they served octopus, and even tried to find him a girl friend, which turned out to be an exterminator.
The Adventures of Larry the Alien is written with so much humor but so realistic that I could actually see Larry taking on his different forms and protesting that serving octopus was barbaric. This short book of Larry's adventures is not only funny but so creative on the author's part. It has taken me to the decision that if I ever run into an Alien, and know it, that I want him to be just like Larry. A really fun book to read.
This was delightful. I loved the fun characters and scenes. The pacing was fun with a comic book feel. I am going to be on the lookout for more Larry tales.
"The Adventures of Larry the Alien" is thoroughly heart-warming, enchanting, and laugh-out-loud hilarious!!! It is the ultimate fish-out-water tale, and with his shape-shifting antics, Larry is definitely my kind of alien. Equally appealing are Larry's human family, Murphy, the bartender, his wife, Dolores, and his mother-in-law Edna. I would definitely love to sit down and share a fruity, fermented drink with all of them!
John McDonnell has written a funny, wonderfully creative, quick-paced story, perfect for a light, entertaining read!
This book is silly and one of the most fun reads I have had. Larry the alien is a shapeshifter with problems. He is depressed and drinks too much. Murphy the bartender/bar owner has his hands full when he offers Larry a place to stay. This is a fun set of short stories that most people will love.
Just take our advice and get this one.
