If you LOVE a great story well told, READ ANY BOOK AUTHORED BY CLAUDIA HALL CHRISTIAN! Having devoured all of her Alex the Fey books, I decided to read her 2 Seth and Ava Mystery books, and immediately fell in love with all the characters. I read somewhere that some of the characters in this series - set in Colorado - are also in her Denver Cereal series, so I will have to check out this series next.I love Ms. Christian's style of writing. She doesn't write in the 'traditional" style of "beginning to end". When you enter her world, you thing that you entered in the middle of ongoing lives being lived the best that they can be lived with all the ups and downs of "real life". As you continue reading, the author provides clues to all the back stories.
In this, the first book in this series, Seth is a piano prodigy who also is a police detective consultant. Both parts of his professional life feed the creativity of each other. In his 59 years he has lived many lives. A friend has predicted that he will marry 3 times, the last time for love. Ava is that third wife-to-be and love. In the book, Ava, her mother and 2 sisters are still reeling from recent events that disrupted their lives.
I don't want to tell more and spoil the story for you new readers. Needless to say, I loved the book and am loving the series.

I loved that both lead characters were strong personalities and interesting. A fun stimulating read, which made me look forward to the next book in the series.
I liked Seth and Ava when they were in the Denver Cereal stories. I love them now. They are a very strong and loving couple. I even like the dog.
Seth is approached by an old friend to help with a cold case. Seth and Ava end up facing a 100 year old legacy of murder for hire. Along the way enemies and family members die but it ends OK. I cried through the last chapter. )
One mystery was not solved. I want to know who hired the hit men? I hope that will be answered in either a future book or over at[...]
I can hardly wait for the next episode!
The Tax Assassin by talented author, Claudia Hall Christian, is the first in her new Seth and Ava mystery series. These two characters were previously in the serial mystery series, Denver Cereal, and are now taking on their own thrilling stories. I found the book to be tightly written, the mystery very well plotted and as always the characterization is superb. In other words, I really loved The Tax Assassin and would highly recommend to those who love mysteries with wonderful family interaction and a storyline that keeps you reading until the very last page. I couldn't put it down once started. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Kudos to the author for another fabulous mystery.
I was looking for another episode of the Denver Cereal Series, even tho the story is billed as a Seth & Ava story .
I love all Claudia Hall Christian books. She is an awesome writer. This is a mystery with a side of romance. What could be better? Will definitely read the rest of this series.
If you like the characters that Ms Christian has developed in the Fey and Denver Cereal series, you will love the divergence into the Seth and Ava mysteries ... (can't wait for more). She artfully takes a beloved (by me) character and his love interest and develops him in greater detail. Seth was an interesting character that was only on the surface, a more minor character in her other books. Here in the S&A mystery, she develops him an gives us insight into his psyche. I love learning in depth knowledge of characters I have already met and Ms Christian does that with flair!
